Is Your Child Missing An Important Element in Their Sun Safety Routine?

Less than 30% of parents are currently protecting their children's eyes with sunglasses.

Aussie adults do eye-protection really well. When we’re driving, we put on our sunglasses. Boaties swear by their polarized sunnies. And snowboarders wouldn’t put so much as a boot on the mountain without some protection for their eyes.

But what about our kids?

We make sure they wear shirts, sunscreen and hats, because that was the sun-safety mantra when we were kids. Slip, slop, slap…you know how it went. But we know now (thanks to Sid the Seagull's updated jingle) that that’s just not enough. Children’s eyes are even more susceptible to UV rays than adult eyes are, because they have large pupils and clearer lenses. Plus, they get about three times as much annual UV exposure as adults do, leaving them susceptible to cataracts, skin cancer around the eyes, sunburn of the eyes and macular degeneration.

But where do you start when you’re already overwhelmed with parental to-do’s?

A Simple Practical Solution

We believe that eye sun-safety doesn’t have to be a burden. In fact, we’ve got a super simple, practical idea to get you started.

Keep a pair of Babiators, one for each child, in the car. Every time you get in the car, get your kids to click on their seatbelts, then slide on their sunnies.

That’s it. Pretty soon, sliding on their Babiators will become as automatic as belting up.

Even if you just do this one thing, and your kids only wear their sunnies to school drop off and pick up (say, 30 minutes a day), their eyes will gain 3,000+ hours of UV-free time.

Once they get used to wearing their Babiators, they can just leave them on when they hop out of the car to go to the park, or visit the beach. Then, they can slide them back into the car pocket after they unbuckle their seatbelts back home.

Sun Safety - Sorted!

And you can rest easy knowing that your little one’s eyes are getting the best possible start for the years to come.
